Planning a trip to Newport? We went to Newport for a day trip in August. Continue reading to learn about the best things to do and where to eat while you’re visiting Newport.
THINGS TO DO
Key highlights:
- Walk along the Cliff Walk
- Tour the mansions
- Shop and eat around the Newport wharf
Start the day by heading to the Cliff Walk. Enjoy a short or long walk along the ocean.
Then drive over to some of the mansions and take a tour. The Breakers is a popular one to tour. You can buy a ticket to see several mansions, so we ended up touring The Elms as well. Both were nice properties and had parking lots where you could leave your car.

Once you’re done, head to the wharf area off America’s Cup Avenue to grab lunch. I’d recommend eating at The Mooring Seafood Kitchen. We got the oysters Rockefeller and lobster roll – both were delicious.

After lunch, spend time walking around the area and checking out all the different stores on Thames Street.
Craving something sweet, stop by Cold Fusion Gelato. The gelato was worth it!

If you’re sticking around Newport for dinner, there are so many restaurants to choose from in that area.
